Overview[]
This section covers some basic functionality to play the game, as well as information about your hotbar (aka quickbar), which is the green bar in the middle-left of your screen that has Stats, Inventory, etc.
Starting Out[]
When logging in for the first time, you'll be in one of the starter zones with a small Beginners Guide to get you started, which is also covered here. You navigate the game in the top right with the directional buttons. At the top middle of the screen, you'll see a bunch of timers and information.
- Timers: Thees are for Daily Bonus. Current Server Time (also the command /time), and the Quest timer for when you can complete a new quest. The links are for more information but less important here.
- All information about the game can be found in various locations - In-game through the use of Commands, our Discord, or this very site you're on! Asking questions in chat can also be a way to gain information from other players (or your clan members)
In an area that contains monsters, you have the option to Fight, Choose a monster to attack, and another dropdown to switch to players instead of monsters to attack (if it is a PvP zone, which is most). After clicking fight, you choose to Attack or Cast. Attack is based off your weapons in Right Hand / Left Hand slots while Casting using your Spell One / Spell Two to determine your damage.
Once you fight enough, you'll gain levels to upgrade your stats and eventually your gear. The game is basically never-ending making your character stronger to progress to tougher enemies!
Most windows will have a "Pin" button. By default when you perform an action, your screen will default back to the Stats page, but pinning will prevent this.
While some of this might fly over your head, let's go over everything in the informational window that is the top left of your screen:
Informational Window[]
- Rank #xxx [name]: This is your ranking against other players with your name displayed
- Exp Bar: Under your name is a bar that displays how close you are to your next level.
- Character Info: Under the exp bar is your alignment standing (default is Neutral until you're -100 or 100+), your current level, your current race, and current profession.
- Strength: This determines your damage with weapons and is a requirement to equip higher tier gear.
- Dexterity: This determines your accuracy with weapons and is a primary stat for most fighter Classes.
- Intelligence: This determines your damage with spells and is a requirement to equip higher tier gear.
- Wisdom: This determines your accuracy with spells and is a primary stat for most caster Classes.
- Vitality: This determines your maximum health pool and is a primary stat for the Vampire class.
- Health: This is how much health you current have, based on the vitality stat. You die if it reaches 0!
- Gold: This is how much gold you currently have on you. If you die, you lose it all (with exceptions) so make sure to bank often!
- Bank: This is how much gold is stored in your bank vault. it cannot be lost upon death and is safe.
- Experience: This is your current experience gained. After leveling up, it'll reset back to 0 unless you have experience rolled over (in most cases).
- Next Level: This is the experience you are required to meet until you gain a new level, which scales higher and higher the more you climb.
- Class Type: There is a Class system in Shimlar, broken up into Fighters - Casters - Elites for a total of 13 different builds. Each class gains various perks but you must be within the confines of that build or else it'll say [none] which is bad! As a fighter, Dexterity needs to be your highest stat for instance. If another stat surpasses it (such as vitality or wisdom) but you're using weapon, you'll lose perks as you're no longer classified as a "fighter" type.
- Alignment: Your morality gauge. This has no bearing on anything and is cosmetic only, but it changes based on killing in certain zones, killing players, killing certain Special Monsters, etc. There are progressively higher Titles and rankings for some extra flair.
Hotbar (Quickbar)[]
You can view various information in the information windows, controlled by the quickbar. By default, the Stats page is selected, as all information in that window is described above.
- Stats Window - Already covered in the information window section, this displays your characters currently level power.
- Inventory Window - Displays your current gear along with all items in your inventory, with an additional quickbar inside. You can sort your inventory lists through A-Z, Gems, and Gear. Also displays any resources in a separate inventory.
- Strip button - This will immediately take off all your gear in quick fashion.
- Items: Default option, which is your equipment/inventory.
- Loadout: Lets you preset gear to quickly switch out, but must upgrade Estate to enable it.
- Trade: Trade menu to buy/sell to other players. Only one trade can be active at a time, although you can receive multiple items as long as it is different people. Leaving the price blank will send it to the player for free. Examine is used to know what the item you're sending is.
- Estate: Your estate tab, fully covered here. Among acting as a second inventory, it has many other features.
- Clan Armory: Displays the 3rd inventory, among other features. Fully covered here.
- Training Log Window - Displays current session data: Levels gained, rounds taken to kill, total kills/deaths/1-hit kills (1 round), drops you've received, and masteries gained. The buttons next to each drop type will toggle the message you receive when you receive a drop. By default, it tells you exactly what you were given, but turning on "hide" will display a vague message instead, such as "You received a gem!" instead of "you received a mala*". You can hit the reset button to clear all fields, or relog for the same effect.
- Battle Info Window - This display all currently applied buffs to your character that updates upon any kill. At the top is current Daily Bonus and Personal Bonus Time boosts, along with zone information, Character Strength, Zone Information, Profession Modifier, Player Modifier, and Estate Passives. There is a lot here but basically it's a tally of everything your character has that is stacked. There are many more niche fields hidden by default under Player Modifiers which become visible if they apply to your character, but helps keep it relatively cleaner to not always display.
- Command Window - Commands are used by using "/" and then the proper input to activate, which lets you view any information in the game as needed, or various other things such as mod commands, fun games like hangman etc. Some commands require just the name, such as "/myth" is all information about upgrading gear, which "/id" requires an extra input of a player to check their stats, such as "/id Alpr". Not all commands are listed (also in the command list at the bottom of screen), but all the useful ones are listed.
- Quest Window - This is used when completing Quests. As you kill Special Monsters to progress your quest, it is automatically checked off here. A very helpful tool to know what you still need.
- Settings Window - Various game settings are applied here. You can change how numbers are displayed, dark mode, each of timers (mentioned above) can be hidden, exp bar on/off, display all zones again in a shrine if you've hidden some of them, base your chat color off emblem or alignment, ignore alignment from certain special monsters, switch the position of attack/cast button, change the color of the fight button, and also the fight button position. More game settings will be added in the future, so keep an eye out!
- Map Window - This displays the map layout of the current Zone you're in. Not all zones have this feature (only a few do not, such as The Wilderness) but it displays the portals to other zones (E) and any Interactions available.
- Manual Window - This takes you here, to the Wiki!!
- Logout - This will log you out of the game.
